That James owns an NBA franchise isn't exactly a shock. Last March, his goal was to own an NBA team after his official retirement.

Fenway Sports Group owns a variety of professional sports teams, including the Boston Red Sox, Liverpool F.C. and more recently the Pittsburgh Penguins. James is a partner in the ownership group.

James is currently in his 37-year-old season, his fourth with the Lakers. That year, James averaged 29.0 points, 7.9 rebounds and 6.3 assists while shooting 51.9 percent from the field in 43 games. The Lakers hold a 27-33 record and are ninth in the Western Conference as of Monday, February 28.
