Dakota Johnson plays Madame Web for Sony Pictures
Dakota Johnson has entered talks to play the lead character Madame Web in one of Sony's many planned Spider-Man spin-offs at the studio, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
First appearing in 1980's The Amazing Spider-Man #210, Madame Web is a psychic mutant who specializes in predicting the future. She is usually portrayed as a blind, paralyzed old woman surrounded by a web-like machine necessary to keep her alive. For several years, Sandra Bullock was rumored to be in the running for the role, but she debunked that rumor late last year.
SJ Clarkson is set to direct the film from a script by Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless, who are also behind another Spider-Man spinoff, Morbius. This project follows the aforementioned film and a previously announced Kraven The Hunter film as Sony continues to expand its Spider-Man universe.
This brings Dakota Johnson back to major franchise films after her tenure with the Fifty Shades of Gray series. Johnson has focused on smaller projects, most recently appearing at the Sundance Film Festival with roles in Am I Okay? and Cha Cha Real Smooth, both of which he also produced under his YeaTime banner.
